Mohanam Bilingual Kindergarten:

Since 2004 Mohanam Cultural Center provides educational opportunities for 40 children from Sanjeevi Nagar, Alangkuppam, and other villages around Auroville who come from families that otherwise could not afford to send their children to kindergarten. Using modern pedagogical methods and at the same time paying attention to transmit the values of the ancient Tamil tradition, the center tries to give the children a firm base to be able to develop the necessary faculties for an independent and progress-oriented life.

Traditional arts courses for youth:

The Mohanam team has identified some of the last living exponents, elders and resource people of the communities in performing and martial arts, festival customs and traditional crafts for transmitting all this rich knowledge to the new generation. Through arts courses and other special educational activities we try to give the youth a variety of tools to express themselves with and in so doing revive their own culture. Guidance is also offered in proper eating habits, hygiene and respectful behavior.

Summer Camp:

A special experience for 200 children from poor villages who, for one week, have the rare opportunity to try out many different artistic and expressive activities like music, dance and theater.

The Bamboo Research Center:

The Bamboo Research Center provides vocational training designed to help students, professional craftsman, farmers, women's groups, and entrepreneurs learn how to design and construct a wide array of bamboo products. Our hope is that the prodution unit will become the income-generator for all the different Mohanam activities.

The Mohanam Cultural Center only survives thanks to the minimal state support and your donations, and is currently facing a time of crisis. Without your support, Mohanam may no longer be able to continue to provide its services and carry out its mission.
